
John ("Mac") McGarry is Associate Director for Research & Strategy for Tristan Capital Partners.
Before joining Tristan, Mac studied at Cambridge University and received his MPhil in Real Estate Finance with a dissertation that explored the history of real estate business cycle theory.
Prior to Cambridge, Mac was an Associate Director at Holiday Fenoglio Fowler, a commercial real estate capital markets firm in Washington, D.C.
Prior to HFF, Mac worked at Goldman Sachs for over seven years, beginning as an Analyst and leaving as a Vice President. He began working in corporate bond trading/liability management in New York, then worked in Hong Kong and Beijing in special situations principal investing targeting distressed debt and real estate. He then returned to New York to work in fixed-income derivatives and advised U.S. businesses in managing their interest rate and currency risk.
Mac grew up in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Duke University in North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. At Duke, he had a particular interest in the history of economics and in political economy. He speaks Spanish and French and has three passports – British, Irish, and American. He is a volunteer with American Corporate Partners in their mentoring program dedicated to helping U.S. veterans transition from the armed services to the civilian workforce.
